Urban Narnia – a new winter wonderland for all – Hatch

Get ready for the most extraordinary of Christmas experiences. A winter wonderland with urban attitude, a place where the surreal meets the sublime, Christmas cheer meets nano-brewed beer, and the darkest of spaces are given the brightest of touches all under the moody Mancunian Way…welcome to Urban Narnia at Hatch!

Urban Narnia will see Hatch more than double in size and transform into an urban winter wonderland complete with twinkly lights, blankets and a stage.

Our Urban Narnia events programme kicks off from 6pm on Thursday 15th November with an incredible free opening party! Starring The Snow Queen, Fantastic Fauns and Mr Tumnus, Danielle Moore of Crazy P fame will be on the decks, Jenna and the Gs will be putting on a live performance…and Beefeater Gin will be brewing up free hot gin punch cocktails for the first 200 guests to arrive! Forget mulled wine, this is Christmas for the curious, and hot mulled gin (and sake!) is the order of the day. Guests will also be able to check out our new collective of retailers, street food brands and bars who’ve joined the lineup.

Following on from the launch party an immersive and diverse programme of events is scheduled throughout the rest of Urban Narnia with music, performances, parties (for kids and grown-ups alike) and a whole family of characters to meet including Mr Tumnus and the Fabulous Fauns.

Highlights include:

On Friday 16th and Saturday 17th November the launch weekender will continue in style with free live performances from The Exacters (heavy funk with a distinctly modern flavour) and The Italian Job (Manc-Scilian frontman leads quintet playing an eclectic mix of soul, funk, reggae, ska, blues and rock n roll).

21st November Izzie Walsh will curate the last of her popular 2018 open mic nights, bringing 10 new acts to the Hatch stage.

24th November Start your Saturday night off right with this wicked swing group who can often be found rocking the Albert Schloss stage with their amazing covers!

30th November Live music from Refried Beats who’ll be serving up tunes influenced by the music of South America, mixed with some of the chunkiest grooves that Manchester has to offer!

1st December Hatch’s resident independent record label and vinyl shop Stutter & Twitch take to the decks all night long.

6th December Urban Narnia will host Urban Lights – a night of ‘light graffiti’ and live DJs. Visit Hatch that night to participate in a very different live graffiti art project hosted by photographer Simon Buckley, creator of the acclaimed Not Quite Light project. All this will happen to the soundtrack of live DJ sets from Manchester legends James Holroyd (Begin) and Krysko (The Warehouse Project).

8th December The Playhouse Project is taking over Hatch for a festive family rave featuring Bad Santa and The Naughty Elves! Expect festive fun and merry mischief for all the family including Christmas crafts, face painting and a very special DJ set by L’il Fee (The Whip).

14th December Our first birthday party! With live music from Manchester born and raised Joshua Goddard duo.

15th December Santa Paws from Betty & Butch.

20th December Festive performances from the Cosmo Singers and a reappearance from ‘Mr Tumnus and the Fabulous Fauns’ will be a magical finale at the Mince Pie and Mulled Wine Mingle on the 20th December.

With all this and more (think DJs, competitions and bundles of festive cheer), come and join us for a fantastically cool yule at Hatch.

Urban Narnia opens at 6pm on 15th November with the last event taking place on the 20th December.

Event times vary – please check the Hatch Facebook @HatchMCR for details.
