In this week’s Thursday Trader Talk we hear from Andy Morris and Mike Tilley, owners of Urban Artistry, a street art gallery showcasing the very best urban art from an ever expanding portfolio of local and national artists.
The name of our space is: Urban Artistry.
We sell: Original and printed works by both local and international urban artists.
We got started: Through a shared love of street art and graffiti, we were looking to provide a platform for artist to display and sell there work with someone who has a passion in that field.
We take inspiration from: Anything creative really, that could be street art, graffiti, graphic design, music or movies. Something that makes you stop and think…
My/Our typical day: Receiving new artwork. Re-working our space and sourcing new art.
Before we did this: I’ve worked in retail management for 20 years while Mike runs his family business back in Crewe this is where we run our @TheUrbanArtistryJunkyardJam event.
The best thing about our job is: Either receiving new artwork, or messaging an artist to tell them when there work has sold.
The worst thing about my job is: Also receiving new artwork! As we always want to buy it ourselves!
Favourite product in store right now: The 2 original pieces by Barcelona based artist SheOne, and Mike’s is by far Tankpetrol’s Bifurcation.
You should visit us to discover: Some of the areas best Urban Art.
Our favourite thing about Hatch is: The varied list of traders and the interesting outdoor space where we’re hoping to put on some great events, all under the cover of the Mancuniun Way.
In our spare time: We travel around photographing or filming art/artists visit our Instagram page and check out our video edits.
Top tip to other independent traders would be: Go for it, we waited for too long to pursue our dream!
