Landing mid-June 2019
If you’ve visited us at Hatch in the last few months, well firstly, thank you, we really appreciate it! And secondly you’ve probably noticed that work is well underway on something but you might not know what. Well, it’s all because we’re working hard to get ready to triple in size this June and become a multipurpose, independent creative village of food, drink, retail, entertainment, roof terraces, creative workspace, social and event spaces for you to enjoy. Here’s a pretty picture of what it’s going to look like…
This new retail village will be a central part of our space at Hatch. It’ll be a place where you can discover new products, experience great services (from hair cuts to luxury shoe cleaning), take part in workshops, learn new skills and kick back over a great lunch, dinner, cocktail, craft beer, coffee…whatever takes your fancy. From a line-up that’s completely unique in Manchester, with a number of brands you won’t find anywhere else in the country either.
I know, “Enough already! Tell us whose going to be popping up in June!” Ok, here goes…

These lovely folk won our 2018 retail competition so they’ll be receiving a four week pop up period rent free and selling handmade ceramics at their first independent shop. Founded in 2016, Clay Studio in Hulme provides a dedicated workshop for new graduates, hobby ceramicists and experienced makers. It is run as a collective of artists, makers and businesses of all abilities who pay a membership fee to share the facilities at the Clay Studio which include kilns, potters wheels, work surfaces, lathes, equipment etc. The Hatch unit will be their first proper ‘front door’ and opportunity for the collective to sell the pieces created in the studio direct to the public. It will be a co-operative style retail space for the studio and will provide a unique new shopping experience with beautiful, individually crafted ceramic pieces designed by local artists that can’t be found anywhere else. Each week they’ll be focusing on a different discipline providing a great opportunity to get your hands messy and find out more about this wonderful craft with lots of opportunities to meet the maker.
Established jewellery shop and Afflecks favourite Abacus will be returning to Hatch after a successful six week pop-up last Christmas with an array of their hugely popular sterling silver jewellery and body jewellery.
Mindful Store recently won this year’s Environmental category in the Alliance MBS ‘Venture Further 2019’ awards. It’s a modern-day physical store that lets sustainable brands get into retail within a couple of days and reach a wider audience instantly, tackling the problem of sustainable brands not receiving sufficient brand exposure. Brands pay a fixed monthly subscription fee to have their products displayed in the store and keep 100% of the sales revenue. The store will give shoppers the opportunity to discover amazing, innovative and sustainable products. A real focus is put on telling the story behind the product, rather than simply selling it. Every product comes with a QR-code that tells customers more about the background story: where and how it was produced, who the founders of the company are and how the product benefits our planet.
